Ready Stock Smith & Wesson Model 686 .357 Magnum – Home Defense guns
The Smith & Wesson Model 686 is a six-shot double action revolver chambered for the .357 Magnum cartridge. It was produced from 1985 to 1999 by Smith & Wesson, who had previously discontinued the model in 1986 due to lagging sales. The 686 is based on S&W’s K-Frame and has a shrouded hammer.
The Model 686 has been used by several US police departments as a backup weapon or for off-duty carry. It is also popular with hunters and those who enjoy shooting sports such as cowboy action shooting and IDPA competition shooting because of its accuracy, reliability, light recoil and manageable muzzle blast.
If you’ve been thinking about buying a home defense gun, but aren’t sure what to get, we’re here to help. Home defense is an important part of protecting your family and property. And while it’s important to have the right tools for the job, it’s also vital that you have a gun that you feel comfortable using—one that will do its job properly and keep you safe.
That’s why we’re so excited about Ready Stock Smith & Wesson Model 686 .357 Magnum – Home Defense guns. This is the perfect way to get started with home defense if you’re new to the world of firearms. It has a sleek design, making it easy to use and carry around in virtually any setting. And at just over three pounds, even someone with small hands will be able to pick up this revolver and get good results from it!
It comes equipped with high-quality sights: red fiber optic front sight and groove rear sight for quick target acquisition. The six-inch barrel gives you plenty of leverage when pulling back the hammer for each shot, which makes it easy to line up your next shot even after firing several rounds quickly at close range (which is ideal in most cases).

What’s in the Box

Smith & Wesson Model 686 .357 Magnum®/.38 S&W Special +P Revolver

The Smith & Wesson Model 686 is a classic revolver with a full metal frame, cylinder and barrel. It has a capacity of 6 rounds and is chambered for the .357 Magnum and .38 Special +P cartridges. This double-action revolver features a 2.75 inch barrel, fixed sights, wood grips, an exposed hammer and blued finish.
The S&W Model 686 was originally introduced in 1980 as a stainless steel version of the classic Model 19 Combat Magnum with adjustable sights. In 1990 the Model 686 was introduced as a stainless steel version of the original K-Frame revolver design with fixed sights replacing adjustable ones on all models except for “Combat” models that retained adjustable sights. It was discontinued in 1999 but reintroduced in 2005 with slight cosmetic changes (such as rounded edges on certain parts) but still remaining true to its original form by retaining many internal parts unchanged from previous models.
The Smith & Wesson Model 686 .357 Magnum/.38 S&W Special +P Revolver is an ideal choice for home defense. This revolver was designed by Smith & Wesson to be the most powerful handgun available, and it’s still one of the most popular options today.
The Model 686 comes in both .38 Special and .357 Magnum calibers, so you can choose the right caliber for your needs. Both calibers are great choices for self-defense at home because they offer plenty of stopping power and accuracy at close range.
The revolver also comes with a full-size grip that makes it easy to hold onto when firing multiple shots quickly or shooting from awkward positions. The large grip also helps prevent recoil from being too strong when firing heavier loads such as those used in hunting or target practice.
What is the difference between a 357 Magnum and a 38 Special?
The 357 Magnum and 38 Special are both popular calibers of ammunition, but they have their own unique characteristics.
The 357 Magnum (also known as .357) was first introduced in 1935, and it has since become one of the most popular handgun cartridges in the world. The .357 Magnum operates at a much higher pressure than many other pistol cartridges, making it ideal for use with magnum revolvers and lever-action rifles. It can be used for personal protection, hunting, or target shooting.
The 38 Special was introduced in 1899 by Smith & Wesson as an improved version of their earlier cartridge, the .38 Long Colt. The .38 Special works well in both revolvers and semi-automatic pistols and is still one of the most popular non-magnum handgun rounds today. The 38 Special fires a smaller bullet than the 357 Magnum at lower velocity but with greater energy due to its larger case capacity—this gives it better stopping power than some other smaller rounds like 9mm or .380 ACP (Automatic Colt Pistol).
The most obvious difference between the 357 Magnum and 38 Special is the cartridge size. The 38 Special uses a .357″ diameter bullet, while the Magnum uses .357″ bullets. The Magnum also has a higher powder capacity and chamber pressure than the Special, and it fires at a higher velocity.
The Magnum was designed to be used in medium-sized handguns with longer barrels that could handle the increased pressure of firing larger cartridges. It’s also capable of firing heavier projectiles at higher velocities than its smaller cousin, which makes it an excellent choice for hunting game animals such as deer or wild boar.
How many rounds does a Smith & Wesson 686 hold?
The Smith & Wesson 686 revolver holds 6 rounds. The cylinder of the gun is six shots, and it’s in a break-action style. The barrel is also 6 inches long, which means you can get more accuracy out of your shots. The Smith & Wesson 686 holds 6 rounds, with a maximum capacity of 7 rounds. The revolver is chambered for the .357 Magnum cartridge, and it has a barrel length of 2″.

What’s the difference between a Smith & Wesson 686 and a 686 Plus?
The Smith & Wesson 686 and 686 Plus are both double action revolvers that use a six shot cylinder, but there are some differences in their design. The Smith & Wesson 686 is made from stainless steel and uses a traditional revolver hammer with a spur. It has an exposed hammer that can be manually cocked for single action fire, or it can be fired in double action mode. The cylinder release latch is located on the left side of the frame and is pressed to open the cylinder for reloading. The rear sight is adjustable, and the front sight is fixed.
The Smith & Wesson 686 Plus uses a shrouded hammer instead of an exposed one, which provides better protection against snags during draw or reholstering. It also has a transfer bar ignition system that prevents accidental discharges if the gun is dropped or struck by another object. The barrel, ejector rod head and cylinder release latch are all chrome plated for corrosion resistance and durability. This model also comes with adjustable rear sights as well as a ramped front sight blade (instead of a fixed blade).

The Smith & Wesson Model 686 and 686 Plus are two different revolvers that are part of the Smith & Wesson Model 686 family. The 686 is a double-action revolver (DA) with a 5-inch barrel and stainless steel construction. The 686 Plus has an adjustable rear sight, which can be adjusted for windage or elevation, and it has a 6-inch barrel. Both models have a cylinder capacity of 6 rounds, but the 686 Plus can hold 8 rounds of ammunition with moon clips.
The Smith & Wesson Model 686 was first introduced in 1990 as a part of their third generation of large frame revolvers. It was designed to compete with Colt’s Python line by combining modern features with traditional Smith & Wesson quality construction. Its metal parts were made from stainless steel alloys while its frames were made from aluminum alloy; they were then finished with a satin polish finish, giving them an elegant look while also making them resistant to corrosion.
The first model had a 4 inch barrel and fixed sights; however, there were many other versions released throughout the years since its introduction:
The Smith & Wesson Model 686 Plus was introduced in 1993 as an updated version of their original model. It had several improvements
What Smith and Wesson revolver shoots 38 and 357?
The Smith and Wesson Model 13 shoots both .38 Special and .357 Magnum rounds. It’s a revolver, meaning it has a rotating chamber that loads each round individually as the gun is fired. This differs from semiautomatic pistols, which load a magazine (usually with 10 to 15 rounds) that’s inserted into the gun before firing.
Smith & Wesson Model 13 was introduced in 1899 and discontinued in 1999. At one point, it was the best-selling handgun in the world due to its combination of power and reliability.
The Smith and Wesson Model 686 is the only revolver I know of that shoots both the 38 and 357. It’s a pretty neat gun, too—it has a stainless steel finish and rubber grips designed to make it easier to hold. It’s also got a 6″ barrel, so it’ll shoot pretty far.
Here are some other great guns: Smith & Wesson Model 66 – This gun has a 6″ barrel and is built for speed loading. It can shoot .357 Magnum rounds with ease.
Smith & Wesson Model 29 – This is another great gun that can shoot either .357 Magnum or .44 Magnum rounds (or other calibers with the right ammo). It has a 4″ barrel, which makes it easier to carry around than the 686 but harder to shoot accurately at longer ranges.
